Consumer Reports Magazine Recommends And Promotes Inferior Low Quality Air Purifiers

Consumer Reports Magazine Promotes Inferior Air Purifiers

Consumer Reports Recommends Inferior Air Purifiers

Consumer Reports Magazine has a large following, and their customers expect that the information they provide is truthful and without bias. However, this IS NOT the case with their recent articles “Air Purifiers: Some Do Little Cleaning” and “Air Purifier Claims.”

In these articles, Consumer Reports makes misleading and inaccurate claims while glorifying low-quality, poorly designed air purifiers.

In these articles, Consumer Reports fails to recognize the high-quality HEPA air purifiers such as the (Made In Canada) Airpura HEPA air purifiers with and without medical grade UV ultraviolet light systems and the (Made In The USA) Austin Air Healthmate HEPA air purifiers!

These brands are top-of-the-line and are what the indoor air quality and medical professionals recommend and use personally. Due to our over 30 years of experience in Indoor Air Quality Improvement industry that these are the top HEPA air purifier brands used by hospitals, laboratories, and businesses that require clean indoor air environments.

The reason for Consumer Reports misreporting is simple. They need to conduct the proper testing and they are not doing this. Their testing method is known as CADR testing protocol, which was developed by AHAM (Association of Home American Manufacturers). The AHAM is a trade3 association that only promotes the products of their paying customers, many of which are Made In China and very low in quality.

Many of the actual top-of-the-line air purification manufacturers refuse to pay AHAM large sums of money to be a member. To be an AHAM member, you must pay a very large yearly association fee to become and then stay a member and on top of that fee they must also pay out a hefty percentage of total sales for each and every individual model that they promote. This can add up to a considerable amount of money! In fact its a huge amount of money!

Another reason Consumer Reports testing is flawed is that it only tests for the air purifier's ability to collect the most significant 20% of particles in the air. This includes dust particles and some pollen but does not include smoke, odors, chemicals, gas, and many other small particles known as VOCs (volatile Organic Compounds).

These tiny particles are often the most dangerous as they can penetrate deep into the lungs causing lasting damage to the body. The only filters that properly filter all the particles are TRUE HEPA filters, which collect at a minimum of 99.97% down to 0.3 microns of particle size.

The primary way to remove VOCs is through carbon filters, which many low quality HEPA units being sold do not have or have very little. Proper HEPA filters are a much safer and more effective method for removing small particles than ionizer air purifiers which have been promoted by AHAM. Ionizers produce levels of ozone, which if high enough can cause permanent lung damage to people with pre-existing lung conditions.

Consumer Reports also failed to test the air purifiers over a long period of time. Short-term testing is highly ineffective due to the nature of air purifiers. Experts in indoor air quality agree that the filters (If They Have Them) in air purifiers that are poorly designed lose most of their effectiveness within a short period of time. This can even be within a couple of months, meaning the low quality air purifier can be useless in only a few short months.

Proper high quality HEPA air purifiers, on the other hand, do not lose their effectiveness over time. True HEPA filter’s efficiency increases as it becomes clogged because it makes it more difficult for particles to pass through them.

NOTE: I called Consumer Reports Magazine in my attempt to again talk to someone in the division that tests the air purifiers about how and why they do their testing to what we feel are substandard AHAM CADR ratings.

I told the customer relations representative that helped me that I wanted to know why the magazine still continues to use the CADR testing method and I told her all about my concerns, The Rep’s name was Kim H.

Kim was very nice and I believe that she really did her best to help me as she called me back a couple of times to tell me that she forwarded my concerns to the right people with the word urgent in the message but the people at Consumer Reports did not return any of her calls or E-mails. All she could tell me was that she had no idea why they would not contact her or me about this subject. Honestly I was not surprised about this at all!

I guess this is how Consumers Reports conducts business with people questioning how they test their products! I feel that this is very wrong and it should be a crime for any company that is in business to guide people that have such total trust in them should be ready to hear the concerns of the people that are affected by their published product choices so they can always strive to do better for the millions of people that often blindly follow their recommendations!

I Will End This Article By Saying:
